HEAD IN A BOOK

I was planning on doing an outfit post today, but today was a lazy day, meaning nothing worth photographing clothing-wise! Instead I’ve decided to show you some of my recent purchases. Normally I’d show you a good old fashion haul, but I haven’t bought clothes for a good couple of weeks now (that’s good for me…) and have been spending my money on some lovely books for uni work and my own reading pleasure. Saying that though, I tend to just look at the pictures because they are so lovely! I’ve been raiding Amazon this past couple of weeks (so much so that the delivery man must be getting sick of seeing our faces) and got some really good bargains.

Pattern – Orla Kiely: A gorgeous hard back book with a display worthy cover and stunning images. This is all about Orla Kiely and her designs and prints, and is jam packed with some great photos and illustrations. I can’t really tell you much more as this only arrived today, but from what I have seen so far I think this is going to be one of my favourites.
How To Shop: With Mary Queen Of Shops: This was an absolute bargain! I found this little gem for just £2.99 in a book shop that is closing down in the centre of Preston and snatched it up straight away! It goes into how to make the most of your shopping trips, different shopping tribes and patterns and customer service. I’m a big fan of Mary, and I am planning to reference some of her television work in my current projects at uni. This is definitely useful if you’re into fashion or retail!
Domino: The Book Of Decorating: I’ve always been interested in interior design and want to experiment with it more in my work, so when I saw this book I knew I had to have it. It’s great if you’re stuck for ideas when decorating and I can see it being really handy when I eventually get a place of my own. There are some gorgeous houses featured in the book and some great inspiration if you want to get creative! It also covers a lot of styles, so whether you’re into minimalist and modern or traditional and homely you’ll find something you will love.
The Selby Is In Your Place: This book is based on a project by photographer Todd Selby in which he has photographed designers, models, celebrities and friends in their homes and personal surroundings. It is packed full of pictures of some really interesting people and their individual homes all around the world. The houses are all so different and you can really tell the personalities of the owners from their belongings. I love this book and, as cheesy as it may sound, I find myself smiling when I flick through it!
Charity Shopping And The Thrift Lifestyle: This is something I bought purely for work, as I am writing a 5000 word fashion report on the trend of charity shopping and vintage fashion, so I thought this would be perfect. It has some information about how charity shops have blossomed and features some great little stores across England and other parts of the world.
Print & Pattern: Bowie Style: This is another that arrived today, so I’ve not yet worked out the link between the book and Bowie, but that aside, this is one of the nicest books I’ve ever seen! There are page upon page of some stunning prints by some of the best designers and illustrators out there. Some are whimsical and traditional, whilst others are young and fun. My favourite is the work by textile and homeware designer, Ella Doran (shown on the open page above) because I love the collage feel of it. I’d say this is a must buy for anyone interested in art, print, fashion, design etc, etc!

Have you got any of these books? Are there any you would recommend me to buy?

Let me know!

Fashion books are so love <3 But they are a bit pricey!

I definitely need that print and pattern book! I tried searching for a similar book but was out of stock. 🙁

Off-topic: I followed you at Google Connect & Bloglovin'; and if it's not too much to ask, I hope you do the same for me as well. Links can be found on my homepage ^_^

Ah great books! Lol Bowie Style was the name the blogger gave herself when she wanted to be anonymous on her blog 'Print & Pattern', it's not about David Bowie! It's a really good inspirational blog, worth a look 🙂
