I’ve been wanting to try out the Clinique Chubby Sticks for some time now, but never got round to picking any up until now. The idea of having a product that is a mixture of a lipstick, balm and gloss all in one intrigued me from when they were first released, but being an avid lipstick lover, I was a little dubious whether these were just as good as everyone says they are!  I decided to get two colours that I thought were pretty dafe and most me, which were Chunky Cherry, a sheer cherry reddish pink, and Curvy Candy, which is more of a nude toned pink.
First impressions were very good when I opened these babies up. As with all Clinique products, the packaging is what I’d describe as chic and feminine, and the product itself feels high quality and expensive. The Chubby Sticks are in a crayon-like form, and the consistency I would say is more like a balm. The idea is that you twist the silver base to the stick to reveal more of the product once it  wears down, similar to a lipstick bullet.

These apply to the lips really nicely, going on smooth and silky, but very sheer. I found I had to sweep these across the lips a few times to get a colour build up I was happy with, but I think that’s the beauty of a product like this. If you want a quick fix to the lips that will perk them up and moisturise them, then a quick sweep is all you need. However if you want to have a stronger pop of colour then they are easily build-able without being heavy or tacky.

Right – Chunky Cherry

As you can see in the swatches the consistency is lovely. I haven’t applied any other products to the lips in these photos other than the Chubby Sticks themselves, which in my experience is a great sign of a moisturising product as I often suffer from dry, peeling lips which always shows through lipstick. They aren’t as thick or opaque as a lipstick, yet aren’t as shiny as a gloss so it’s hard to describe what these actually are, so I’m sticking with what Clinique describes them as which is a ‘Moisturising Lip Colour Balm’. (They’re the experts I guess!)

I’m really impressed with these overall, especially with how easy and fuss free they are to apply, and how soft my lips feel when wearing them. I love the colours I picked and I’m keen to try out more, but looking at the colour range I think I’ve got the best two for my skintone. These are getting a huge thumbs up from me!

Have you tried the Clinique Chubby sticks? What colours do you have, or would you choose?
