A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by the lovely folk after at ModCloth, and online store that I have admired for some time now after seeing lots of US based bloggers talk about. I was asked to take part in their weekly Polyvore outfit challenge called 'Uniquely You' where a selection of bloggers style up that week's chosen item with a selection of ModCloth goodies. Now you all know I love to put looks together on here, so I was super happy to take part. This week's chosen item from the ModCloth site was the Remarkable Without A Cause Dress, a stunning red number with a very pretty 1940s-esque A Line shape to show off curves. If I'm completely honest, this isn't something I saw myself in straight away and was a little stumped on how to style it, but I got my thinking cap on and managed to put together a look that instantly made it more me.
The idea was to pick up to seven items to style up the dress, so me being greedy picked the whole seven! To start with I wanted to dress the look down a touch, making it more daytime appropriate, so being a lover of the grey marl tee, I went for a classic crew neck one to sit underneath, turning the dress into more of a pinafore. I thought it could also be cute worn over the top and knotted at the waist for a more casual take, so two looks in one there, folks!
I then wanted to go for a heel as this kind of dress on me would cut me off at the legs at a point that would make them look a lot shorter than they are (and they are pretty short!) so I wanted to add some height to stop that from happening. I spotted the gorgeous black courts with red heart detailing. Perfect match, no? However this took it a little down the dressy route again, so I picked out some grey socks to compliment the tee and give more of a cute, younger feel.
Accessory wise I wanted to keep it pretty simple, so picked out a gorgeous black bag (that I now NEED) to balance out the black shoes, and some delicate rings similar to those I wear all the time. I finished everything off with a lovely little wooden watch and a bold red lipstick to pull everything together!
I'm really pleased with the look I've created, and I definitely think I would wear this now that I've added all the extra pieces. You can check out the look in more detail on my Polyvore page.
How would you style the red dress? Would you wear the look I put together?
