I love a good challenge, especially when it involves clothes, so when Boohoo asked me to take part in their October Blogger Style Challenge my answer was a big fat HELL YES! So what’s the drill? Boohoo pick out a selection of bloggers each month and send them all their ‘dress of the month’ to style up in their own individual way. I had no idea what was coming until it landed on my doorstep which left me feeling a little nervous about the challenge, but when I opened the package and spied the gingham, I knew I could make it work!

The item that I got to style is a gorgeous little gingham wrap dress with some insanely sassy sleeves! I’ve loved the exaggerated balloon sleeve trend from a far but been a little scared to try it until now – its safe to say, I’m converted! Sadly I’m not blessed with even body proportions though, so what should be a lovely little mini dress is actually a lot shorter on my long torso, so I decided to do something a little different with the styling and wear the piece over some ripped denim jeans.

Gingham Wrap Dress – Boohoo* // Black Polo Neck Jumper – TU // Ripped Knee Jeans – H&M // Boots – H&M // Bag – H&M // Baker Boy Hat – New Look

The wrap detailing and tie fastening reminded me a little of a jacket, so I decided to take that idea and run with it, using the dress as more of an over-shirt styled over a classic black polo neck jumper. Sticking to the colour scheme from the gingham, I accessorised with all black pieces to ensure the dress was the main focus. I added black patent boots, a cute little bucket bag and finished the look off with a faux leather baker boy hat and a red lip for a splash of colour!

I absolutely love how this outfit has turned out, and really enjoyed challenging myself to style a piece that’s out of my comfort zone and not something I’d usually choose myself! I think the dress would look really cute worn over a leather A line mini skirt too, or even over a crisp white shirt for a smarter feel. So many options with just one piece!

Let me know what you think of this look and how you would style the gingham dress for Autumn!
