WORKING THE BLAZER IN TO YOUR WARDROBE

27-02-18

If I had to choose one key item in my wardrobe that I’ve worn the most over the past 6 months, it would have to be a blazer. They’ve always been something that I’ve had in my collection, but with the rise of the checked blazer trend last year, they’ve become much more of a staple in my wardrobe, and so much easier to find on the high street.

I’ve started to build up quite the collection now, and have everything from classic grey checks, to bold yellow and simple black, but my favourite has to be this midnight blue velvet number that I picked up from Miss Selfridge before Christmas. I bought this with the intention of wearing it purely for more ‘dressed up’ looks, but recently its found its way in to my day-to-day styling and I can’t get enough of it!

Blazers are such easy pieces to style and can instantly elevate a casual look in to something much more ‘put together’. They’re great for work, where I can dress more smart-casual, they work really well for evening-wear worn over a simple jumpsuit or a jeans-and-a-nice-top combo with a pair of heels, and they look amazing paired with matching trousers for the ultimate power suit!

I tend to wear mine over a slogan print tee and jeans for a smarter twist on a laid back outfit, with a pair of ankle boots or simple trainers like I have done here. I love how the deep blue velvet looks paired with light wash denim of the wide leg jeans and the bright slogan of the T shirt. This is really typical of my day-to-day style, and one of my favourite looks this year so far!

This blazer is sadly sold out at Miss Selfridge, but you can still pick up a few sizes here in the sale at Very if you’re quick! There are lots of other variations available online though if you wanted to join the velvet blazer gang (you know you want to!). I also tried to get hold of the matching trousers as seen on the lovely Megan Ellaby but alas, it just wasn’t meant to be!

Have you tried out the blazer trend?
