I’ve always had problematic skin for as long as I can remember, with awful break outs, sensitivity and even acne flare ups, so it came as a huge surprise to me to find that my skin has, without me jinxing anything (fingers crossed), finally calmed down! I’d love to put this down to genetics, good diet etc, but that would be a huge lie. In actual fact I think this is massively due to the fact that, with our wedding now less than six weeks away, I’ve actually been making the effort to stick to a skincare routine, and I think I’ve finally found one that works for me.

Last year I suffered from horrendous breakouts and adult acne that came from nowhere and really affected my confidence. My skin had never been like it before, and it had a huge effect on my day-to-day life. I refused to go to the gym in case people would stare at my face, I’d dread getting ready for work in the mornings as the time and effort spent covering the spots and scarring up drained me, and I hated seeing my reflection in the mirror when it was time to cleanse my face in the evenings.

Then I discovered what has got to be one of my favourite skincare brands; Decléor. I had kindly been gifted some products to try out, and these honestly couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. I changed my whole routine and used these religiously, with incredible results. So good in fact that I’ve repurchased some of the items again and again since. I actually wrote a review about the Decléor skincare that helped me the most!

Thanks to those products, I’ve managed to calm the breakouts and my skin slowly but surely became relatively clear, so I recently decided to switch things up a little and try and add in some new products in to my routine, as well as some old favourites, to help to get my skin in the best condition as possible for the big day! Every bride wants to have beautiful glowing skin, and I’m hoping that this combination of products continues to work for the next six weeks!

The first thing I do when I wake up (after scrolling Instagram, of course) is go straight to the bathroom and wash my face. I’ve learnt that my skin can only really tolerate gentle cleansers before it starts to become dull, dry or agitated, so I stick with my Decléor Aroma Cleanse 3-in-1 Hydra-Radiance Cleansing Mousse* as its very light on the skin. I also keep a cleanser in the shower too, so when I’m in there I reach for my Bioderma Sensibio Mild Cleansing Foaming Gelwhich is also very gentle on the skin, and leaves me feeling refreshed and soothed.

After cleanser, I tend to go straight to a moisturiser as I like to keep my routine as fuss-free as possible. I use my trusty Decléor Skin Perfecting Hydrating Lotion*, which is a milky formula that’s super lightweight. I find that my make up lasts really well after using this, too! Finally, I apply some of my Embryolisse Soothing Eye Contour Care* underneath my eyes, and I’m all set to apply my make up.

I’ve found that this morning routine, albeit simple, has been so effective in helping my skin stay clear and calm, and as everything is so light and gentle, I don’t feel like I have any product on my skin at all after applying. I’ll definitely be sticking to this in the run up to the wedding, and it will no doubt be the routine of choice on the day itself, with the addition of a great primer (recommendations welcome!)

When it comes to the evening, I like to use some slightly more luxurious products, not necessarily in terms of price, but more in texture and formula. I start off by cleansing with The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter, a product I fell in love with years ago but stopped using for a reason I don’t remember. I since repurchased and my skin has been absolutely loving this! Its a waxy balm that melts any make up away, and I wipe it off with a hot damp flannel or make up removing mitt that I recently picked up from Primark. You’re actually supposed to use them just with water, but I didn’t particularly feel like all my make up was removed when I’ve tried it this way! I then rinse any last traces away with warm water, and pat my face dry. Squeaky clean!

If my skin is feeling dull and in need of a boost, or I’ve got any last pesky traces of fake tan on my face that I want to banish, I then reach for The Body Shop Drops of Light Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel, an amazing product that I recently discovered. I massage this in to my skin, and within a few seconds it ‘peels’ away the dead skin cells, which then form in clumps on the skin (both disgusting and amazing in equal measures). You then simply rinse it away and you’re left with super soft, glowing fresh skin! I use this a couple times a week, and will 100% be using this the night before the wedding.

Finally I then moisturise with another old favourite; the Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting Gel Moisturiser, something I again, have used for years but just stopped! I’m so glad to have this back in my life as it is one of my favourite products and has been for a long time. I apply quite a thick layer of this before bed and let it soak in. Its super light and refreshing after a long day, and it smells so lovely too!

This routine has (*touches wood*) completely transformed my skin, to the point where I’ve been receiving compliments on how clear its looking right now, something I’ve never really experienced before! As well as sticking to this routine, I’ve also been mindful to keep up my water intake, trying to drink as much as possible each day which tends to be around two litres. This has also had a huge impact on my skin, not just on my face but I think its actually done my whole body the world of good!

I’m going to be keeping up both the skincare and the water for sure, as well as eating a more healthy balanced diet in the run up to the wedding to ensure I’m looking my best and feel completely comfortable and confident in my skin.

What are your favourite beauty tips? If you’ve got some great recommendations for a bride-to-be, I’d love to hear them!
