When planning what to wear on our wedding day, I’d always had a pretty good idea of how I wanted my hair and make up to look from fairly early on. With a dress that was a lovely mix of bohemian and vintage, I wanted the rest of my look to also follow this kind of theme. I’ve always loved plaits, but I also love to wear my hair down as I really don’t feel like ‘me’ when it’s all up and out of my face, so I decided to go for a half up / half down style in loose curls. After spending a lot of time scrolling Pinterest for the perfect look, I found some variations on a gorgeous tousled french braid style that I knew was exactly what I was looking for.

I had a hair trial a month or so before the big day, and was so pleased with how everything turned out, and it lasted in my hair until the next morning, so I knew it would withstand an evening of dancing! My lovely hairdresser Ghislaine worked her magic and achieved the most perfect style, and recreated it once again on the morning of the wedding itself.

My bridesmaids are all blessed with stunning long locks, something that I’ll never have thanks to my fine hair, so I was happy to let them choose a style that they wanted rather to show off their gorgeous hair rather than dictate what they should have. Funnily enough though, they all actually chose very similar styles, which was so lovely when we were all lined up together! We all went for a variation of a twist or plait, but everyone’s was ever so slightly different.

Each look was then finished off by a stunning dried flower comb to match the bouquets and button holes. I found these at Artisan Dried Flowers and was so pleased with them. I had the medium sized ‘Boho Sunshine’ comb, and my bridesmaids all had the same colours but a smaller version, and they all looked lovely with our hair styles!

When it came to the make up, I decided that I wanted to do my own as I’m really particular about the products I use, plus I have a huge fear of someone else doing my face and I end up looking super orange!! The girls all happily agreed to do the same, so we set up at my sister’s dining room table with all of our products, lots of mirrors, and got to work. I’m so glad we did this as it meant we could all sit together and chat, and help each other with their looks. Sitting down and doing my face was one of my favourite parts of getting ready, and also the most therapeutic, until it got to putting my lashes on and my hands started to shake!

I started off with The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer, then used my old faithful Esteé Lauder Double Wear mixed with a darker shade of Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation to colour match to my tan, and concealed with Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. I then contoured with my Technic Cosmetics Cream Contour Palette, and added a little Max Factor Miracle Touch Cream Blush in Soft Pink to my cheeks. I highlighted with a Primark liquid highlighter, and bronzed with a Charlotte Tilbury bronzer I borrowed from one of the bridesmaids! I used a Maybelline Colour Tattoo Leather shadow on my eyes, along with a couple of colours from the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, then my brows were filled in with the Bourjois Brow Palette, and my lashes were the Ardell Wispies, with a little Bourjois Volume Reveal Waterproof Mascara. On my lips, I wore a Primark liner, and used an H&M Matte Lipstick in the shade Strawberry Mochi, then I spritzed my whole face with the Urban Decay Setting Spray, et voila!

I was so pleased with how my make up came together, having only practised it once a few days before, and the setting spray was an absolute god send on such a hot day! My make up stayed in place throughout the entire day and night, and believe me it was pretty darn sweaty!!

My bridesmaids looked absolutely stunning, and I absolutely love looking back on photos of our hair looks as they just all went together so well. Everyone’s curls were still in tact at the end of the night after throwing some serious shapes, and everyone looked beautiful!

Don’t forget to catch up with my other wedding posts if you haven’t already! I’ve blogged about our wedding outfits, as well as our venue, food and entertainment. In the next week I’ll be talking all things wedding DIY and details!
