Something a little different for you on here today – with the weather being so up and down last week, I thought I’d shoot some photos indoors to save my hair from the dreaded wind and rain, but also to give you a sneak peek in to our new home! We’ve been here for around a month and a half now, which has absolutely flown by, and even though it hasn’t been long, the place has felt like home since our first night here! These photos were shot in our living room, which has to be on of my favourite parts of the house as its where I’ve had the most fun injecting some colour! You’ll no doubt be seeing much more of this room, and the rest of the house on here some time in the not too distant future!
Of course, the house wasn’t the reason for this post though – today I thought I’d share some new wardrobe additions and chat all about the items that I’ll be taking with me in to the colder months. With the emphasis on us more so now than ever to re-wear our clothes and slow down our spend on fast fashion, we’re all trying to find ways to keep items in our wardrobes working past the season they were intended for, and I’ve found the perfect pieces just for that.
One of my most worn items from the past 6-12 months has to be the blazer. I’ve got a collection of different fits, colours, fabrics and prints that I wear in rotation for pretty much any occasion, and they’re by far the most versatile items in my wardrobe. I wear them at work, thrown over a fine knit or t-shirt with tapered trousers or skinny jeans, or you’ll see me wearing them on weekends with boyfriend jeans and oversized slogan tees with trainers. The one I’m wearing here was gifted from Unique21 and is typically in a shade of lilac that you’d usually associate with spring/summer, but throw this over a grey polo neck knit with some jeans and chunky boots, and you have yourself a look that will keep the Winter chill at bay! You can find a huge range of blazers on the high street pretty much all year round – I’ve spotted some lovely ones on the likes of ASOS, Catwalk Clothing and many other sites lately – they’ll see you through many months and seasons, and the great thing is, they don’t look like they’ll be going out of fashion any time soon!
Another one of my old faithful pieces that I seem to wear all year round, is my huge collection of slogan and printed t-shirts. I’d say that pretty much 90% of my outfits revolve around a t-shirt of some description, and you better believe that won’t be stopping now its getting colder! I’ll be styling them of course with my blazers for some much-needed layering, but also under chunky knit cardigans for when I want more of a relaxed look.
The tee I went for in this look is by a brand called Pieces on ASOS, and I just love the mix of colours in the ‘Love Love’ slogan. This one will go with pretty much any colour jacket or cardigan, making it a piece that I’ll wear time and time again in many different outfits!
Then if we’re on the subject of versatile pieces, how could I not mention denim?! I wear jeans pretty much every single day, and they’re something I always feel super comfortable in. The styles I own vary from skinny, to straight, to boyfriend, to mom, to flare, and I tend to go for either black or a light wash as I feel they’re the shades that suit me the most. Again, I wear these for work, for play, for nights out, for lazy days on the sofa – more or less in every single outfit of mine, especially when its too cold to bare my legs in a dress!
Then when it comes to footwear, of course I’ll be digging out all of my trust ankle boots! I have a few pairs that I loved to wear last year that still look as good as new, as well as these gorgeous ASOS ones I’m wearing here that I got a few months back ready for the colder weather. They’re such a great style to wear with jeans, dresses, and midi skirts, and I’ve even been wearing them occasionally throughout the spring/summer, so they’re obviously going to be coming with me through the new season!
This time of year is actually my favourite when it comes to fashion, as I absolutely love layering up with all things knitwear, faux fur, hats and scarves, so I’m kind of secretly happy we’re seeing some chilly weather so that I can dig all of last years woolies out!
I can’t wait to start showing you more of this season’s outfits, and I’ll no doubt be posting a lot of them over on my Instagram too so be sure to follow me @whowhatclaire to see them all! In the meantime, I hope you’ve all had the most fabulous weekend!
