This year has undoubtedly been one of the best years of my life so far, and one that will be remembered for many, many years to come! I planned on writing this ‘2018: Year in Review’ post towards the end of December, but we’ve so much lovely stuff planned over the Christmas period, that I didn’t want to wait and not have the chance to take a moment to reflect. The most significant thing to happen to us this year was obviously getting married! After twelve happy years together, I finally got to walk down the aisle back in June and my best friend became my husband. I can’t quite believe its already been six months since our big day, but its been some of the best six months so far.
Focusing on the big day itself is great, but it can be easy to forget just how much work went in to the whole process of planning a wedding. I’d been so naive beforehand and completely underestimated just how much we needed to do. To look back and realise that every penny we saved, every glass jar I painstakingly spay painted and wrapped in twine, every invite design I spent hours working on only to dismiss it and start again, and every tiny little detail we stressed over was completely worth it in the end. We’ve just received our wedding video, and to see everything come together perfectly was a dream come true! It makes me feel so proud of what we achieved on a smaller-than-average budget. (Brides-to-be: there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Promise!)
Another dream of mine that came a reality this year was to travel to Cuba! We celebrated our honeymoon in Varedo, with a whistle-stop tour of Havana, and honestly it was one of the best places I’ve ever visited. I’ve never felt so genuinely calm and happy – there’s just something about the place that made me feel so at peace (probably the rum), and I’m so thankful to everyone who helped us get there.

Clearly not contempt with living a quiet life, soon after getting back from Cuba, we decided that it was time to look for a new home! Our lease was coming to an end, and our previous home was incredibly cold in the winter due to it being such an old house. It felt like the right time to move in time for the Winter months, and after what felt like endless searching, we found the perfect place and moved in back in September. So far, so, so good! From the first night in our new place, I felt completely at home, even with cardboard boxes all over the house and in a complete mid-house-move mess. It was the best decision we made, and I think we’ll be happy here for quite some time now.
The day after our move, I turned 29! Entering the last year of my twenties was definitely a weird feeling. Obviously because we were in the middle of a house move, it definitely wasn’t ‘normal’ as far as birthdays go, but knowing that my twenties were coming to a close felt a little sad. They’ve been the most fun packed years, filled with the best people, and without sounding super cliché, I’ve grown so much as a person. I’ve gained so much more confidence, progressed so much in my career and figured a lot out about myself, so its a little daunting wondering what my thirties could hold. I guess we’ll find out in September!!
I’d planned here to go in to some detail about the last few months of the year, but to be completely honest with you, September to December has just flown by in one huge blur! Its been a funny few months, with the happiest of highs, and some strange lows thanks to bouts of all-consuming anxiety, which I’m happy to say that I came out of, for the better. We’ve spent time settling in to our home, enjoying each other’s company and spending quality time with friends and family, and it’s been lovely.
I think we needed that time to take a step back, relax and adjust back to normality after such a whirlwind Spring and Summer, and now we’re well and truly ready for the best Christmas ever. Then its straight in to 2019, which is going to be a good one, I can tell! We’ve already got so much planned and so many things to look forward to next year. We both turn 30, and we’ll both be celebrating in style, of course! In February we’ll be heading to Budapest to see in Dan’s big 3-0, then in September it will be my turn, but this time in Lisbon! I’m so excited to spend our birthdays in somewhere completely new to us, and make so many special memories together.
We’re also planning a week away with some of our best friends, and possibly a few days somewhere nice for our first wedding anniversary (which is coming round so much quicker than I expected!). There are so many other things I was to do and try out before my birthday, and I’m going to try my best to tick as many off the list as possible before September.
Whilst this year has been so much fun and such a special one for so many reasons, it has also been one of the most stressful and testing so far. I’d love to just chill out and take time out for ourselves in 2019, hence all the trips! Who knows what the future holds for us, s0 for now I’m happy just spending another year with my best friend by my side, milking the fact that we’re newlyweds for as long as humanly possible, and making the best memories with all the people we love!
So there we have it – my 2018: Year in review! I thought I’d mark the occasion with what has to be one of my most neutral, but one of my favourite outfits this year to date. Thank you to FredaFunk for the incredible faux leather trench coat – a wardrobe staple I never knew I needed until now, and to FemmeLuxe for the dreamy sweater dress that I’m sure I’ll be wearing for most of 2019 (more on my Style Insta story highlights!). All in all, its been an amazing year and I can’t believe how fast its flown by! I can’t wait to see what 2019 holds for us and to see the new year in in style!
How would you sum up your year?
