Midi skirts are one of my favourite pieces to have in my wardrobe as they’re so easy to wear. I love them even more when they have a print! Styling the bright midi skirt can sometimes be a little tricky, especially with a print like this one! I love to play with clashing colours and textures, but also picking out tones from the print and elevating them. Now, I know that Spring might have sprung, but wear these with caution. The wind was not my friend when I wore mine at the weekend! Whilst it made for some pretty cool photos, my legs were like blocks of ice! Lesson learned!

My current go-to way to style my midi skirts is to edge more to a casual look. A T shirt or a sweatshirt like this cute one I was kindly gifted by Joanie Clothing works perfectly on top. I like to tuck mine in, or knot them to accentuate the waistline as its my smallest part. This helps to bring to shape to a look which would otherwise drown my frame, especially since the skirt has a wide A line. There’s nothing about the skirt and the sweater that really go together, so that’s where playing with colour comes in! I’ve picked out the pinky hues from the print of the skirt, and accessorised with those colours to bring everything together. I love this outfit so much!

If I’m not sporting mine with a slogan top and trainers, there are lots of other ways I’d wear a midi skirt like this. For work, I’d style it a little smarter, teaming it with a simple white tee and navy or pink blazer. I’d swap the trainers for ankle boots or even some brogues! This skirt would also look really chic with a classic white shirt, sleeves rolled up a touch, and a pair of nude pointed stilettos. It might be a loud print, but it can still look super elegant!

For evening, I’d pair it with a simple silky black camisole and some strappy black heels, or for more of a summery look, a pretty bardot top and heeled sandals. With a super bright, printed midi skirt, I think it’s really important to keep colours and tones in mind. If you’re unsure what shades will go with your print, stick to neutrals such as black, white and nude tones. However if you want to add more colour, choose one or two hues from your print that you want to really bring out. Picking a simple top in one of those shades will instantly make that colour pop from the skirt! Or using some accessories in that shade will subtly make it stand out a little more, like I’ve done here!

If your print is really bold like mine, I’d steer clear of another print on top, unless you’re brave with your clashing! A plain or simple slogan works really well, like my sweatshirt here. If you wanted to test out a subtle clash though, something like a breton stripe could be a good place to start!
